Historic San Miguel Market, Madrid’s iron market turned gourmet tapas hub

The San Miguel Market is Madrid’s only remaining historic iron-framed market. Transformed from a traditional food hall into a high-end gastronomic tapas venue, it rivals Barcelona’s La Boquería.
Origins & Architecture
Although a market has stood here since medieval times, the distinctive iron pavilion was built between 1913–1916, inspired by early 20th-century European iron markets.
Revitalization & Concept
After decades of decline, the pavilion was fully restored in 2009 and reinvented as a multi-purpose gourmet space for dining, socializing, and tapas tasting.
