House of Sciences in Logroño: Exhibitions, Workshops and the Outdoor Science Garden

The Casa de las Ciencias de Logroño blends industrial heritage and scientific discovery in a free museum housed in a converted early 20th-century slaughterhouse. With no admission fee, every visit sparks curiosity.

Location and History

Established in 1999 within the original municipal slaughterhouse, the museum preserves brick walls and iron gates, now hosting four temporary exhibition halls, a conference room, a library and workshop spaces.

Permanent Exhibits and Workshops

Each year features at least ten temporary exhibitions on astronomy, biology, energy and robotics. Interactive children’s workshops invite building and experimenting, while guided tours (also free) reveal each installation’s secrets.

The Outdoor Science Garden

  • Pirueta: a giant wheel demonstrating speed vs. moment of inertia.
  • Octoscope: rotating mirrors creating kaleidoscopic symmetries.
  • Double Spiral: an optical illusion of endless curves.
  • Water Vortices: crank the handle to generate swirling currents.
  • Dinosaur Track: step in a theropod fossil print from Cornago.
  • Meteorological Station: real AEMET instruments measuring wind and temperature.
  • Sound Experiments: from a giant xylophone to singing plates under your feet.
  • Rock Garden: geological specimens from La Rioja arranged by age.

Who Can Visit?

Admission, guided tours, and access to the Outdoor Science Garden are always free. Perfect for families, school groups, and science lovers of all ages.

The Casa de las Ciencias turns a historic slaughterhouse into an open urban laboratory: dynamic exhibits, creative workshops, and an interactive garden—all at no cost, making science accessible to everyone.
